It’s great being in a University town. The Health and Human Performance Dept. at the University of Montana has been supremely helpful in our efforts to put on a first class marathon. We can’t thank them enough for their interest and participation.
Carla Cox, PhD., RD, designed a nutrition program for our Inaugural Missoula Marathon and Half Marathon Trainees. She’s given a number of talks at seminars to make sure people are fueling properly, and has then gone on to design another nutrition program for our Missoula Half Marathon Walking Trainees. She has also galvanized her students to help our Walking Trainees embrace the program. Carla herself is an accomplished endurance sport veteran, including marathons.
Brent Ruby, PhD., last year assisted Medical Director Eric Kress, MD., with data that helped with our risk management assessment. This year he is designing testing that will gauge the effects of running the marathon on the human body, again with the intent of helping the Missoula Marathon manage the risk component of athletes competing, in potentially warm temperatures, over the 26.2 or 13.1 mile distances. Brent is also an amazing athlete, and has completed the Kona Ironman.
Thank you to Carla Cox, Brent Ruby and the rest of the Health & Human Performance Dept. at the University of Montana for helping to make the Missoula Marathon an event operating with the most advanced scientific data!

Hello:
My husband and I will be touring by bicycle and coming through Missoula in time for me to run the marathon.
I would like information on the closest and most economical motel to the finish line and shuttle buses, as we won't have a car!
Thanks,
Laurel
Hi Laurel
Hello
On the Missoula Marathon: Missoula Where to Stay page I have a link for:
For complete information on Traveling to Missoula, Getting around Missoula, Places to Stay, Places to Eat, Things to Do, etc., visit the Missoula Convention & Visitor's Bureau www.missoulacvb.org.
The Go to their TRIP PLANNNG page then heir Motel & Hotel listing page.
You will be wanting to look for motels in the Downtown/Univ. of Montana area. NOT Reserve St or Highway 93 S.
The closest is The Holiday Inn Parkside & Days Inn Missoula/Univ just a block away from the finish line.
Then other choices are Doubletree Edgewater and some of the less expensive are Thundbird, Campus Inn,
Bel Aire Motel, City Center Motel, Creekside Inn, Downtown Motel, Holiday Inn Express, etc.
Another cool page to visit is also on the Missoula Marathon: Missoula Where to Stay Page is for a interactive map of Missoula, visit www.missoulamap.com. It's easy to find the Downtown area and Higgins Ave. Bridge, Caras Park, then move east. Many of the above motels are pictured on the map.
Thanks,
Steve webmaster
