Root Beer Floats for the Missoula Marathon Kids: Missoula Style
What do you give to a kid who has steadfastly ticked away 25 miles on his marathon log and then finished the final big 1.2 miles on race day? Sure a medal – and yes a shirt, but better yet – how about a particularly special root beer float? Last year at the Missoula Marathon Inaugural Event, Big Dipper Ice Cream volunteered to supply their home-made ice cream and Kettlehouse Brewing their home-made root beer, so the Missoula Kids Marathon Committee could reward each and every finisher with a root beer float on race day. How nice was that? Very – because nobody knew how many kids would RUN the Missoula Kids Marathon! That’s pretty generous to support an event that could have any number of participants.
In the end we had 200 participants and 200 root beer floats. In 2008 we’re hoping for 400 participants, and Big Dipper Ice Cream and Kettlehouse Root Beer will once again be waiting for the runners at the finish line. The Missoula Kids Marathon Committee will serve them up and our young marathoners can go home with a smile on their face knowing they accomplished their goal, and a smile in their tummy as well.
You, too, can thank these sponsors for supporting the Missoula Kids Marathon. All you have to do is eat the ice cream and drink the (root) beer. They’re both located just south of the Higgins Ave. Bridge. Big Dipper Ice Cream is at the corner of 5th and Higgins. Then swing by KettlehouseBrewing at the corner of 4th and Myrtle (okay if you’re under 21 don’t stop there).
